We’re still not done mourning the loss of Ariel from Tuesday night’s lineup, but it seems Shelly Martinez is happily moving on and leaving her ECW alter ego behind. Shelly’s site has been updated to include the following diary entry:

I just want to thank all those who fully have supported me through my career both in wrestling and modeling. There are a lot of rad things in store for me so don’t feel bad for my departure with WWE. It was for the best. I’m sure you all have had your concerns on why. All I have to say is I enjoyed my time with WWE and my coworkers in WWE/ECW. No hard feelings. I just am the type to stand up for what I believe in, lets just end it at that. Now I will have more time to dedicate to the site and start the growth of what my fans love to see. Sweet pictures, info on my events and signings all that good stuff. I will always finally update my photo galleries and photos that you can purchase. Again, please don’t feel bad or sorry for me. I am not.

Although Shelly has yet to announce this on her site or MySpace blog, it looks like she’ll be making one of her first post-ECW appearances this weekend at Wrestling Reunion V. On Saturday, June 2, 2007, Shelly will be hanging out at the St. Demetrius Banquet Center in Carteret, NJ along with several other wrestling stars, including Kurt Angle, Gail Kim, Diamond Dallas Page, Christy Hemme, Missy Hyatt, and the Iron Sheik.

ECW’s resident exhibitionist Kelly Kelly and her Extreme Exposé partners Layla and Brooke joined a ring full of scantily clad divas in Monday’s Memorial Day Bikini Beach Blast Battle Royal. The RAW Battle also featured Mickie James, Candice Michelle, Melina, Jillian, Maria, Kristal and Michelle McCool.

Most of the divas seemed a little too serious considering they were tossing water balloons and waving wet noodles, but not Kelly Kelly. In keeping with her character’s penchant for exhibitionism, she appeared to thoroughly enjoy hamming it up for the cameras while getting wet and wild in the ring.

SmackDown’s Michelle McCool kicked Women’s Champion Melina out of the ring to win the match. All in all, the match was pretty lame by old school ECW standards, but at least the Extreme Exposé ladies were finally doing more than just dancing in the ring.

R.I.P. Ariel

In a widely criticized move, the WWE has officially released Shelly Martinez less than a year after her ECW debut as the tarot card reading vampire babe Ariel.

Unlike the releases of Test and Sabu, I have to admit I didn’t see this one coming. Apparently Shelly was released for defending herself in a backstage argument with WWE darling and juiced-up jackass Batista. Stephanie McMahon’s dislike of Ariel’s look may have also been an issue.

Over at Rasslin’ Riot, Shelly’s release was appropriately summarized in two short statements: ” Damn you, WWE!” and “Vince, you’re a moron.”

Shelly Martinez posted the following statement on her MySpace blog:

I just want to say thank you to all who support me and wish me well. Just so you know, don’t feel bad, I’m off to bigger and better things. Soon as I got off the phone with WWE I got right back on it and made a tons of calls to connections in LA, NY and FL. It time to move and I am and I’m excited about doing other things. Stay tuned to this crazy life I lead….

Could we be seeing Shelly on TNA any time soon, or will she head back to the indy wrestling scene? Perhaps more pinup modeling is in her future? Whatever she decides, we will keep you posted here.

Check out Shelly’s new Ariel photo shoot entitled “Vamped Up” on wwe.com. Her baby doll tank top is part of adult film star Tera Patrick’s new line of lingerie and club/party clothing, Mistress Couture.

Tera’s Mistress Couture label premiered in April 2007 and has been called “a cocktail of seductive bedroom minx and a splash of happy hour hotel room romps, with a classic lipstick-marked collar Americana twist.” In an interview with Hook Magazine (page 16 of the pdf), Tera described her fashions as “naughty clothes for nice girls.”

So, any particular reason Shelly is sporting Tera’s baby doll tank in her new photo spread? Clever product placement or lucky coincidence for Tera Patrick? You decide.
