The WWE Remembers Superstar Chris Benoit

Posted in ECW Alumni, The Show, W.W.E. on June 25th, 2007

Chris Benoit

The world of professional wrestling is stunned and saddened tonight by the tragic deaths of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy, and their 7-year-old son Daniel.

Tonight’s live RAW program was canceled to allow Benoit’s friends and colleagues to remember the 22-year wrestling veteran during a 3 hour tribute. There was hardly a dry eye to be found as some of the biggest names in wrestling shared their tearful memories of the Canadian Crippler and his passion for the wrestling business.

Most news outlets are reporting that hese tragic deaths are being investigated by the Fayette County, GA Sheriff’s Department as homicides. However, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution is reporting that the deaths are being investigated as a murder-suicide. Autopsy results are expected on Tuesday.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the friends and loved ones of the Benoit family.

Trinity on Her Way Back to TNA?

Posted in ECW Alumni, Women of ECW on June 22nd, 2007

Stephanie Finochio aka Trinity

Stephanie Finochio, better known to wrestling fans as Trinity, was released by the WWE today, June 22, 2007. At this time, the circumstances and conditions of her release have not been made public.

Trinity appeared on ECW several times in 2006 as manager for the Full Blooded Italians, and was seen most recently as a lumberjill during the Melina/Ashley match at Wrestlemania 23. However, her most memorable appearance occurred on Halloween 2006 when she won the ECW Diva Halloween Costume Contest. (You can check out her winning crime scene tape costume here and here.)

Trinity’s talents were completely wasted in the WWE. No official word yet on where Trinity is headed next, but TNA would be lucky to have her back, and in addition to being eye candy, she would be able to showcase her impressive wrestling skills. Trinity is also an accomplished actress and stuntwoman, so undoubtedly she’ll have a new gig lined up soon.

Trinity may also find the time to launch the long awaited members only section of her Web site. The paid site will feature “hot photos and videos,” a weekly diary, and live chat with Trinity.

Sherri Martel and the WWE: The Blogosphere Reacts

Posted in ECW Alumni, W.W.E. on June 22nd, 2007

Sherri MartelIn a move that showed far more class than the WWE, The Midwest Insider officially dubbed this week Sherri Martel week at The Indy Wrestleline, stating, “I feel that the death of Mr. McMahon angle is overshadowing the real death of a true legend to this business, and I’d like everybody to leave some of their favorite Sherri memories, and I will share them in the reports.” Check out each of this week’s Wrestleline Report posts for the “Sherri moment of the day.”

The blogosphere was full of criticism of the WWE this week. Joe at Jersey Smarts called the WWE a “classless organization for not properly memorializing Sherri Martel. He wrote, “She was a class act both inside and outside of the ring - and for WWE to not start their show with an “In Memoriam” for the Sensational one is disgusting.”

Like EoS, Bob Magee at the Old Country Times noted that all mentions of Sherri Martel were buried beneath Mr. McMahon news and memorials on WWE.com.

And finally, Pete Ellis at The Wrestling Post hit the nail on the head with his assessment of the current Mr. McMahon storyline and the 10 bell salute, writing “It was a classless mockery of what is all too serious in the real world.”

So there you have it. The WWE: tasteless, classless, totally predictable.
