ECW on Sci-Fi

ECW: The Beginning of the End?

Posted in The Show, W.W.E. on October 16th, 2007

Armando Estrada, ECW General Manager and Vicky Guerrero, SmackDown General ManagerThe ‘net has been abuzz today with rumors and speculation concerning this blurb on WWE.com:

WWE.com has learned that several meetings have taken place between Acting SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero and ECW General Manager Armando Estrada that, if ratified, would allow SmackDown and ECW Superstars to compete on Tuesday and Friday nights.

While nothing is signed as of yet, locker room sources say that this open door agreement between Vickie and Estrada will be discussed tonight, live on ECW on Sci Fi. No further details have been released, and when pressed for more information, Estrada was tight-lipped (a rarity in its own right).

Is this announcement just laying the groundwork for another deadend story arc, or is WWE management making preparations for the ECW roster in anticipation of losing the Tuesday night slot on The Sci-Fi Channel? Is this a last ditch effort to save the ECW brand, or the final nail in the ECW coffin?

Bryan Alvarez speculated on www.f4wonline.com that Vince McMahon is trying to make ECW more appealing to Sci-Fi Channel execs since they have not yet extended the ECW deal beyond the end of 2007. I would be surprised if that were the case since ECW pulls in higher ratings for the Sci-Fi Channel than most of their other programming.

In fact, ECW’s strong performance on The Sci-Fi Channel probably helps to make some of their other programming possible. A show that lacks a hardcore science fiction influence may not be popular with diehard sci-fi fans, but it ensures they’ll be able to keep watching all those low-budget Sci-Fi Channel Original Movies that make life worth living.

Tonight’s ECW on Sci-Fi may give us more insight into this ECW/Smackdown merger. Right now, I’m all for it since it will allow for different combinations of talent in the ring and if we’re lucky, we’ll see other ECW originals (like Rey Mysterio and Edge) back in the ring for extreme rules matches.

Most of you won’t notice anything out of the ordinary. RSS and email subscribers may notice old ECW on Sci-Fi posts showing up in their inboxes and/or feed readers again. We apologize for any inconvenience. All should be back to normal by Monday morning.

John Morrison Delivers Sweet Pain

Posted in The Show on October 14th, 2007

John Morrison and his icky poetryJohn Morrison is back in the ring and back to sharing his poetic stylings with fans. In his latest dark and brooding masterpiece entitled “Sweet Pain,” the bard Morrison writes about arousal, penetration, and throbbing enlightenment. No, really. See for yourself:

The waning mystery of love.
Cuts, pulverizes, wounds,
as dawn creates day.

Roses are evil, Daisies are death;
The adored nameless; avarice.
Symphony of arousing shrapnel,
penetrates the still heat of the mid day sun

The heart shaped swan;
pests, jackals, demons
feast on throbbing enlightenment.
Kind clouds drink the light.

Sweet darkness
Sweet horror
Sweet Pain!

Anyone else feel a little icky after reading that? Sweet pain indeed!

Shelly Martinez in “The Search for the Next Elvira” - Download Episode 1 for Free!

Posted in ECW Alumni on October 13th, 2007

Shelly Martinez (ECW’s Ariel) as a contestant on The Search for the Next Elvira

“The Search for the Next Elvira” debuted this weekend on Fox Reality Channel. As you may know, ECW alum Shelly Martinez is featured as one of the “unlucky 13″ finalists, along with several other voluptuous goth chicks like Asia Devinyl and April Wahlin.

Unfortunately, most of us don’t have Fox Reality in our cable lineups, but don’t worry, EoS is looking out for you. You don’t have to settle for grainy 30 second clips on GooTube. Here’s a link to download all 43 minutes of episode number one, “The Odd-itions from Hell,” for free now $1.99 from Amazon Unbox:

The Search for the Next Elvira, Episode 1: The Odd-itions from Hell

Unfortunately Amazon’s freebie download of episode 1 of “The Search for the Next Elvira” was short lived.  No word yet on whether or not future episodes will be available for free download, but if they’re out there, we’ll let you know. Enjoy!

Update: After watching the full episode, I can tell you that it’s everything you would expect from an Elvira production - campy humor, innuendo, and lots of cleavage.  I enjoyed watching Elvira and her sidekicks, the Manviras, judge the gaggle of 20 Elvira hopefuls, but if you don’t want to sit through the whole episode, fast forward to 22:44 and 27:55 to catch the best Shelly Martinez bits.

Sci-Fi Starlet Saturday: Michelle Ryan

Posted in Also on Sci-Fi, Women of Sci-Fi on October 13th, 2007

Michelle Ryan, the Bionic Woman, shirtlessCritics have given NBC’s revival of Bionic Woman a lukewarm reception, but reviewers and fans can both agree that Michelle Ryan is a hit. As the star of the new Bionic Woman, 23-year-old Michelle Ryan portrays the robotically-enhanced barkeep Jaime Sommers. Michelle is reportedly performing her own stuntwork for the series, including plenty of fight scenes.

Prior to her September 2007 debut on Bionic Woman, Michelle Ryan was best known for her role as Zoë Slater on the BBC soap opera EastEnders, and more recently, a stint on the popular BBC series Jekyll. Jekyll sounds like it’s worth checking out - one reviewer called it “part Hammer-style horror-thriller, part X-Files conspiracy fiction, and part solid drama.” Michelle also appeared in this year’s I Want Candy, the low-budget British comedy featuring Carmen Electra in the titular role.

It comes as no surprise that Michelle Ryan has been listed on FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women several times. There are plenty of revealing photos of Michelle online, including this red carpet wardrobe malfunction (NSFW link) and this one that’s safe for work:
