Sci-Fi Starlet Saturday: Krista Allen

Posted in Women of Sci-Fi on December 29th, 2007

Krista Allen in Maxim

As promised last week, our Sci-Fi Starlet today is Krista Allen. While Krista Allen may be best known for her work on Days of Our Lives and Baywatch, the 36-year-old actress actually has a fair number of science fiction roles under her belt.

Krista Allen actually has a dedicated cult following of X-files fans who fondly remember her portrayal of Jade Blue Afterglow in “First Person Shooter,” an X-files episode penned by William Gibson. Her other sci-fi tv credits include Smallville, Mutant X, Charmed, and Andromeda.

Krista Allen also played the title role in the softcore sci-fi series, Emmanuelle in Space, so we really wouldn’t be doing our jobs if we didn’t cover her on Sci-Fi Starlet Saturday!

While Krista Allen has dozens of television and film credits to her name, she may be most recongnized for her personal relationships. She’s been known to turn gay men temporarily straight (George Clooney) and as an open bisexual, the notches on her bedpost are reported to include adult filmstars Jenna Jameson and Krystal Steal.

Oh, and did we mention she’s posed naked?

Sabu vs Cactus Jack

Posted in ECW Alumni, The Show on December 27th, 2007

Circa 1994 this ECW classic has Sabu in a grueling hardcore match against Mick Foley in his Cactus Jack days. Paul E. and 911 are at ringside and of course get involved. Early in the match Sabu misses a spot and lands ribs first on the metal guard rail. At about 10:00 he unsuccessfully tries to break a beer bottle over Foley’s head, leading him to try several more times until the bottle eventually breaks.

The thuds of each impact are literally sickening. Enjoy:

The Muta Scale

Posted in The Show, World Wide Weird on December 21st, 2007

Ask a “hardcore” fan to judge how good a match was and you’re likely to get some arcane reference to the “Muta Scale” with particularly gruesome matches getting “a full one” on the scale. The scale is of course named after legendary Japanese wrestler The Great Muta who bladed himself so deeply in a 1992 match against Hiroshi Hase that his face became unrecognizable under the sheer quantity of blood.

Since that legendary match, the Muta Scale has provided we “smart marks” with a handy measurement for just how bloody a match really was. It goes from 0.0 to 1.0.

You can watch the bloody birth of the concept below. If you’re in a rush the blood starts flowing around 14:25

The sad thing is that today’s ECW has to be scored in negative numbers on the Muta Scale. Old school ECW averaged about a 0.4.
