ECW on Sci-Fi

ECW Gets (Even More) Family Friendly

Posted in The Show, W.W.E. on July 28th, 2008

Kelly Kelly

Ugh.  The title says it all.  Just in case you were holding onto an utterly misguided hope that ECW might some day return to their old school, hardcore, extreme Philly roots, I’m here to permanently crush your dreams.

WWE has announced that ECW on Sci-Fi will move to a 9pm EST time slot on September 30, 2008 as part of their effort to provide more “family friendly” programming.  What does this new PG spin on ECW mean for fans?  Let’s see: no blood, no barbed wire, and no razors, to start with.  I’m also betting we won’t be seeing any “accidental” nip slips any time soon.  Eventually, we probably won’t even have PG photos like the one of Kelly Kelly at the top of this page.

Will the 9:00 pm time slot be the final nail in the ECW coffin, or will the “Land of Extreme” find a new, younger audience at the earlier hour?

Mexican Death Match!

Posted in ECW Alumni, Lucha Libre, The Show on July 21st, 2008

I just found this classic hardcore match from the old ECW again featuring E.O.S. favorite Tajiri against hardcore luchadore Super Crazy. Unlike the previous Tajiri vs Crazy match posted here this is no squash, but almost 15 minutes of bloody mayhem guaranteed to bring a smile to the face of the most bloodthirsty fan. Enjoy:

If you haven’t caught a WSU show, grabbing one of these DVDs for 5 bucks is a great way to check ‘em out.

The sale ends at midnight tonight.

Summer Sci-Fi: New Heroes Webisodes

Heroes

While we focus on wrestling a lot around here, our official tagline is “Wrestling, Sci-Fi, and Everything In Between.” Since most televised wrestling hasn’t been hitting the mark lately, it’s time to check out what’s going on in the world of science fiction this summer, starting with the much awaited Heroes miniseries.

Heroes: Going Postal premieres on the Interwebs on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 3pm EST. Yep, that’s 3pm today, just a bit over an hour from now, on NBC’s Heroes Web site.

The first webisode, “A Nifty Trick,” introduces us to a new hero, a mailman named Echo DeMille who discovers he has a deadly sonic power a la Banshee from the X-Men. Additional online episodes featuring Echo DeMille will follow later this month, with “The Houseguest” available on July 21st and “Let’s Talk” on July 28th.

Heroes: Going Postal

Another character seems to be the last thing the cast-heavy series needs, but fond memories of season one make me willing to give these webisodes a chance.

While this Heroes miniseries isn’t expected to include series favorites like cheerleader Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) or Niki Sanders (Ali Larter), at least one familiar face will put in an appearance: Angela Petrelli, mother to Peter and Nathan and grandmother to Claire.

Heroes: Villains, the third season of Heroes, is scheduled to begin airing with a two-hour episode on Monday, September 22, 2008.

Dreamhost, the company that hosts this site, will be doing a little network housekeeping tonight. The ECW on Sci-Fi Blog will be offline starting around 10pm PST on Friday, July 11th. (That’s 1am for you east coasters.)

If all goes according to plan, we’ll be back online in under 2 hours. Try not to miss us too much!
