Mexican Death Match!

Posted in ECW Alumni, Lucha Libre, The Show on July 21st, 2008

I just found this classic hardcore match from the old ECW again featuring E.O.S. favorite Tajiri against hardcore luchadore Super Crazy. Unlike the previous Tajiri vs Crazy match posted here this is no squash, but almost 15 minutes of bloody mayhem guaranteed to bring a smile to the face of the most bloodthirsty fan. Enjoy:

Shelly Martinez Returns to the Indy Scene

Posted in ECW Alumni, Indy Wrestling Scene, Lucha Libre on July 16th, 2007

Less than two months after her WWE release, Shelly Martinez is back in the ring. But forget Ariel - say hello to Vampira!

Shelly Martinez with Vampiro

The former ECW diva appeared at the LA Sports Arena on Saturday, July 14, 2007 to take part in the Full Contact Wrestling (FCW) lucha libre show. She accompanied Vampiro into the ring where they defeated Aaron “Jesus” Aguilera via disqualification.

Brandon Chow of The Wrestling Observer has more on the FCW show and Shelly had this to say on MySpace today:

Last night FCW was nuts!!!! I had a ball. Vampiro won by DQ against Aaron “Jesus” Aguilera. These two beat each other to death. I don’t know how they were both standing. They went into the crowd and fought twice, there was a table involved, and damn Aguilera hit me off the apron and attacked Vampiro and me from behind after the match was over. I made my return with FCW under the name Vampira. Keep a look out for future shows where Vampira will be hanging around the ring with Vampiro.

Nice to hear that Shelly Martinez has a regular wrestling gig lined up while she’s preparing to get Koffin Kitten launched. Also good to see that there’s life after Wrestling Society X for Vampiro, who you may remember from his WCW days.

Saints Alive! Amy Dumas Joins Forces With Santo & The Cartoon Network

Posted in ECW Alumni, Lucha Libre on February 4th, 2007

Amy Dumas aka LitaAs we mentioned back in December, ECW alum Amy Dumas (aka Lita) is now the lead vocalist for the #1 unsigned punk band in Georgia, The Luchagors. If you haven’t been following Amy’s new career, you can check out her music and see what what the band is up to on The Luchagors’ official MySpace profile.

Amy’s musical career is really taking off - she and her bandmates are spending lots of time on their first album and they just did some work with the Cartoon Network on a promo for an animated series featuring El Hijo del Santo.

For those who don’t know, Santo is a wildly popular lucha libre star who has held numerous titles in Mexican wrestling promotions. Amy and her band are huge fans of lucha libre (as if you couldn’t tell by their band name) and even bigger fans of Santo.

There’s a great write-up about Santo on Luchawiki. He has already starred in a five episode series on the Mexican Cartoon Network called Santo Contra Los Clones (Santo vs. The Clones). Check out the Cartoon Network promotional site (in Spanish) or watch the first episode, courtesy of YouTube:
