Old School Thursday: Tajiri, Little Guido and Simon Diamond in a Three Way Dance

Posted in Old School Thursday on September 10th, 2009

I think the announcers are speaking in German but the action needs no translation. Old school Tajiri before the WWE repackaged him as a mentality deficient goofball and the very under rated Simon Diamond turn in solid performances bolstered by Little Guido who was at his best making his opponents look good. Pure entertainment.

Tajiri is still plying his trade in Japan’s Hustle promotion, which has some great videos floating around on the web. Little Guido has been working the indy circuit and is rumored to be going inot law enforcement.  As for Simon Diamond? Last time fans saw him was in TNA about six years ago. Too bad he was a good heel.

Old School Thursday: Brian Pillman Invades ECW

The very best wrestling promos blur the line between reality and storyline so well that fans are left wondering if what they saw was a “shoot” or a “work” and this clip from 1996 of the late, great Brian Pillman is the standard by which all such promos will forever be judged:

Brian Pillman’s daughter Alexis had been spotted at TNA house shows as a ring girl about a year ago and was said to be working as a valet on the southern indy circuit. Hopefully we’ll be seeing a new Pillman in the future.

Old School Thursday: The Very Best of Joel Gertner

WWE’s much lauded “attitude era” missed out on a gem when they never brought in Wrestling greatest mic man Joel Gertner. Gertner entertained fans with his unique and vulgar “poems” right up until the ECW went out of business in 2001. Last sighted working as a promoter for Connecticut based MXW Pro-Wrestling in late 2006 Gertner is a talented performer whose presence is sorely missed in this era of bland and talentless wrestling announcers.
