Sci-Fi Starlet Saturday: “Devil Girl” Vanessa Kay

Vanessa Hay may be more familiar to many as a “Juggy” from The Man Show but model/actress Vanessa Hay also played a live action version of iconic tattoo/comic image The Devil Girl in a future cult classic aptly named Devil Girl. In my opinion Kay performance captured the Jungian archetype that has graced the work of so many underground artist portfolios perfectly.

Admittedly the movie isn’t so much Sci-Fi as it is an ode to Generation X pop culture sen through Rob Zombie tinted lenses, but it’s worth a watch if only for the surrealism of watching an exotic dancing Devil Girl.

Vanessa Kay has a portfolio online which shows even sans red body paint and prosthetic tail she isn’t hard on the eyes. Her I.M.D.B. page seems light, hopefully we’ll be seeing more of her in the future.

Sci-Fi Starlet Saturday: Daniella Alonso

Admittedly there are not as many nude pictures of Daniella Alonso floating around the web as would befit one of E.O.S.’s Saturday starlets but this cult movie beauty is too hot to not mention. The American born actress may best be known as a minor, but delightfully bi-curious, character on prime time viewer lobotomizer One Tree Hill but our readers may also recognize her from high cheese content fright flicks like Wrong Turn 2, The Hills have Eyes 2 and of course Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror.

While those movies may have, shall we say, varying levels of entertainment value, fans are no doubt looking forward to seeing her in her newest project The Collector, which has a site that literally will check your name against a database to see if you’re old enough to see their “sadistic” content. Where’s the A.C.L.U. when you need them? Fear not though, Fangoria has the “sadistic” content which is basically a trailer with some blood and topless women in it. Go ahead. I’ll wait.

As you probably can see in the new tab you just opened it isn’t Daniella’s breasts in the trailer, but I haven’t seen the movie so there’s hope yet! Until then this is as risque as it gets with the tiresomely classy Daniella, but something tells me that after a couple of more Horrible Movie IIs we’ll probably get to see some more skin.

Pray for a flop people! Pray for a flop.

WTF? Billy Bob Thornton to Play Freddy Krueger?

Posted in Science Fiction on August 13th, 2008

Robert Englund, Freddy Krueger, and Billy Bob Thornton

Horror fans have pretty much come to terms with the fact that there’s going to be a Nightmare on Elm Street remake. They’ve even accepted that Robert Englund, the actor who’s practically synonymous with Freddy Krueger, has hung up his striped shirt and child-piercing gloves for the last time. But will they be able to stomach Billy Bob Thornton as Freddy Krueger?

No official announcement of Billy Bob Thornton’s attachment to the film has been made, but Robert Englund lent credibility to the rumor when he spoke of it during interviews last week. Although I can’t quite visualize Billy Bob Thornton in the Freddy Krueger role, he’s a decent actor and I’m willing to see how things go.

My issue with the casting of Thornton is that Robert Englund ostensibly stepped aside from the part of Freddy to allow a younger actor to reinvigorate the role. This is where I say, “WTF?” Robert Englund is 61 and Billy Bob Thornton is 53. That’s not enough of an age difference to justify severing Englund from his iconic role as Freddy Krueger.

If you’re having trouble imagining what Billy Bob Thornton might look like as Freddy, someone at FirstShowing.net has flexed their Photoshop muscles to bring you a mock up. In related news, Defamer has observed the Billy Bob Thornton curse, so anyone else signing on to the Nightmare on Elm Street project might want to think twice.

Summer Sci-Fi: New Heroes Webisodes

Posted in Science Fiction on July 14th, 2008

Heroes

While we focus on wrestling a lot around here, our official tagline is “Wrestling, Sci-Fi, and Everything In Between.” Since most televised wrestling hasn’t been hitting the mark lately, it’s time to check out what’s going on in the world of science fiction this summer, starting with the much awaited Heroes miniseries.

Heroes: Going Postal premieres on the Interwebs on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 3pm EST. Yep, that’s 3pm today, just a bit over an hour from now, on NBC’s Heroes Web site.

The first webisode, “A Nifty Trick,” introduces us to a new hero, a mailman named Echo DeMille who discovers he has a deadly sonic power a la Banshee from the X-Men. Additional online episodes featuring Echo DeMille will follow later this month, with “The Houseguest” available on July 21st and “Let’s Talk” on July 28th.

Heroes: Going Postal

Another character seems to be the last thing the cast-heavy series needs, but fond memories of season one make me willing to give these webisodes a chance.

While this Heroes miniseries isn’t expected to include series favorites like cheerleader Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) or Niki Sanders (Ali Larter), at least one familiar face will put in an appearance: Angela Petrelli, mother to Peter and Nathan and grandmother to Claire.

Heroes: Villains, the third season of Heroes, is scheduled to begin airing with a two-hour episode on Monday, September 22, 2008.
