Sci-Fi Starlet Saturday: Mary Elizabeth Winstead

It’s Sci-Fi Starlet Saturday again, and today we’re looking at Mary Elizabeth Winstead. At just 22 years old, Mary Elizabeth Winstead already has an impressive list of sci-fi and horror credits to her name.
Although she’s stunningly gorgeous, Mary Elizabeth differs from many of our other Saturday Sci-Fi Starlets in that she didn’t get her start as a fashion model. Her childhood ambition to become a ballerina quickly gave way to her love of theater when she began taking acting lessons at age 11.
She began taking television roles in 1997, and by 1999, Mary Elizabeth Winstead had a stint on the supernatural soap opera Passions. Shortly after that, she landed the lead in the short lived werewolf series Wolf Lake. Also of note to science fiction fans, Mary Elizabeth had a guest role on Tru Calling and a part in the made-for-MTV Carmen Electra vehicle, Monster Island.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s big screen credits include the horror flick The Ring Two, the superhero action film Sky High, and the lead in Final Destination 3. Other horror credits include Black Christmas and the Death Proof segment of Grindhouse.
Mary Elizabeth has also gained notice outside of her work in horror and science fiction films. She landed a part in the Emilio Estevez drama Bobby, and more recently, she played Lucy McClane in Live Free or Die Hard.

Although Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been vocal about not wanting to accept roles that require nudity at this point in her career, that hasn’t stopped men’s magazines from noticing how hot she is. In additon to appearing in Maxim and FHM photo shoots, she ranked 92 on Maxim’s 2007 Hot list and number 10 on the Maxim list of “Hottest Women of Horror Movies.” More recently, Mary Elizabeth came in at number 91 in the 2008 edition of the AskMen.com Top 99 Women.

Sci-Fi Starlet Saturday: China Chow

Frankenfish is the greatest giant mutant fish movie ever made, partly due to the presence of Sci-Fi eye candy China Chow. This hottie may have moved on from Sci-Fi originals, but she’ll forever remain in our hearts as the fish fighting heroine of the the Sci-Fi Channels late night classic.

She doesn’t have the web presence you’d expect from an up and coming starlet but luckily for us the ‘net abounds with photos of the former model. Here’s hoping she gets more exposure in 2008, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a Frankenfish II!

Sci-Fi Starlet Saturday: Victoria Pratt

Choosing to feature Victoria Pratt on Sci-Fi Starlet Saturday was really a no brainer. With the body of a kickboxing fitness model and the talent of a seasoned sci-fi actress, Victoria Pratt is both a sex symbol and a staple in sci-fi productions.

After graduating from York University with a degree in kinesiology, Victoria Pratt went on to become one of the most recognizable fitness models in the world, appearing on the cover of Oxygen and Musclemag multiple times. The publisher of Musclemag encouraged her to pursue acting, and in 1997 Victoria landed a recurring role on the television series Once a Thief.
Victoria Pratt’s next role as the Queen of the Amazons on Xena Warrior Princess got her noticed in Hollywood, and between 2000 and 2004 she starred in two sci-fi television series: Cleopatra 2525 and Mutant X. She later starred opposite Taye Diggs in the short lived series Day Break.

Victoria Pratt has also worked in science fiction and horror films, including Brotherhood of Blood, House of the Dead 2, and Sci-Fi Channel original picture Kraken: Tentacles of the Deep. Most recently, she starred in a made-for-TV version of Jules Verne’s science fiction classic, A Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Note: if you’re searching for more info on her, she is sometimes billed as Vicky Pratt.

Sci-Fi Starlet Saturday: Melissa George

Melissa George has one of those faces - one of those “where do I know her from?” faces. And if you’re a sci-fi and horror fan, you may know her from more places than you think.
After some success with television roles in her native Australia, Melissa George moved to Los Angeles. That’s where she landed the recurring role of cold-blooded double agent Lauren Reed on Alias in 2003. Although she had acted in several small roles in American productions prior to her 23 episode stint on Alias, Melissa George’s portrayal of Lauren Reed was really her breakthrough role.
In 2004, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films recognized Melissa George’s performance on Alias with the Cinescape Genre Face of the Future Award.

Melissa George has also found success in the horror genre, with roles in The Amityville Horror, Turistas, and of course, 30 Days of Night (out on DVD on February 26, 2008). Melissa George is also in final negotiations for the starring role in The Triangle, Christopher Smith’s upcoming horror thriller set in the Bermuda Triangle.
Melissa George started out as a model back in Australia, and before making her move to the United States, George posed for Australian Playboy and Black + White. Both shoots included some nudity.
There’s a huge gallery of Melissa George photos on the official Melissa George Web site. For more on Melissa George, check out:

Sci-Fi Starlet Saturday: Natasha Henstridge

Another Sci-Fi Starlet Saturday, another hot supermodel turned sci-fi actress. Featured today is Natasha Henstridge, also known as, the chick from Species.
Natasha Henstridge entered a modeling contest at age 13, and by 15, the young Canadian was living in Paris and gracing the cover of the French edition of Cosmopolitan. She later made the transition to commercial work, and appearing in a few cosmetics spots helped her catch the acting bug.
It wasn’t much later that Natasha Henstridge made her first film, Species, in which she played an oversexed alien/human hybrid who spent tons of time in various states of nudity. Natasha went on to appear in Species II and Species III as Eve, a clone of her original character Sil.
Natasha Henstridge has worked fairly consistently since her debut role in Species. Other than the Species films, her sci-fi work includes roles in Adrenalin: Fear the Rush, Ghosts of Mars, and single episodes of The Outer Limits and Homeboys in Outer Space. Natasha has also worked in thrillers, romantic comedies, and dramas, but has probably seen the most success with her television parts in the short-lived She Spies series and Commander in Chief.

Currently, Natasha Henstridge is playing the title character’s fiancee in the new legal series Eli Stone. You can read more about Natasha at:
