Sherri Martel and the WWE: The Blogosphere Reacts
In a move that showed far more class than the WWE, The Midwest Insider officially dubbed this week Sherri Martel week at The Indy Wrestleline, stating, “I feel that the death of Mr. McMahon angle is overshadowing the real death of a true legend to this business, and I’d like everybody to leave some of their favorite Sherri memories, and I will share them in the reports.” Check out each of this week’s Wrestleline Report posts for the “Sherri moment of the day.”
The blogosphere was full of criticism of the WWE this week. Joe at Jersey Smarts called the WWE a “classless organization for not properly memorializing Sherri Martel. He wrote, “She was a class act both inside and outside of the ring - and for WWE to not start their show with an “In Memoriam” for the Sensational one is disgusting.”
Like EoS, Bob Magee at the Old Country Times noted that all mentions of Sherri Martel were buried beneath Mr. McMahon news and memorials on WWE.com.
And finally, Pete Ellis at The Wrestling Post hit the nail on the head with his assessment of the current Mr. McMahon storyline and the 10 bell salute, writing “It was a classless mockery of what is all too serious in the real world.”
So there you have it. The WWE: tasteless, classless, totally predictable.
