ECW on Sci-Fi

Hail to the King!

Admit it, you love your King, especially after appearing on ECW on Sci-Fi and turning in one of the best performances by a “guest” wrestler since its inception. Only Ric Flair’s bloodbath against Big Show was better, and the Booker/RVD match may not have been bloody, but it had that cringe factor that makes a match hardcore.

Rumor has it that Booker’s thinking retirement, although he’s signed on with WWE for another couple of years, dare we hope that the king would spend some of that time in the ECW on a more permanent basis? The ECW roster is frankly thin on talent that can really work a match on a regular basis, that has the kind of experience, or charisma, that Booker T. brings to the table. The number of “extremists” who can cut a decent promo could be counted on one hand, with fingers left over, and it isn’t feasible to have all the wrestlers work matches non-stop unless WWE could provide an unlimited amount of reservists to pick up the slack for injured performers.

Thus, ECW needs dynamic personalities that can entertain fans inside and outside the ring. Unfortunately most of the ECW standbys just don’t have the mic skills to pull their weight outside the ring. Van Dam and Sabu are great inside the ring, but they cut God awful promos, and the much-lauded Balls Mahoney is as mediocre on the mic as he is in the ring. Steve Richards is the only one capable of really shining outside the ring on the ECW roster, but he gets about as much airtime as on Sci-Fi as his old buddy Blue Meanie does.

Booker T. is as entertaining outside as any wrestler has ever been, and could provide ECW with many more options of how to spend its precious fifty-some odd minutes every Tuesday night. His wife’s not hard on the eyes either.

Alas, I fear it’s only a dream, but men of the West I implore you, pray for the return of the King
