In a widely criticized move, the WWE has officially released Shelly Martinez less than a year after her ECW debut as the tarot card reading vampire babe Ariel.

Unlike the releases of Test and Sabu, I have to admit I didn’t see this one coming. Apparently Shelly was released for defending herself in a backstage argument with WWE darling and juiced-up jackass Batista. Stephanie McMahon’s dislike of Ariel’s look may have also been an issue.

Over at Rasslin’ Riot, Shelly’s release was appropriately summarized in two short statements: ” Damn you, WWE!” and “Vince, you’re a moron.”

Shelly Martinez posted the following statement on her MySpace blog:

I just want to say thank you to all who support me and wish me well. Just so you know, don’t feel bad, I’m off to bigger and better things. Soon as I got off the phone with WWE I got right back on it and made a tons of calls to connections in LA, NY and FL. It time to move and I am and I’m excited about doing other things. Stay tuned to this crazy life I lead….

Could we be seeing Shelly on TNA any time soon, or will she head back to the indy wrestling scene? Perhaps more pinup modeling is in her future? Whatever she decides, we will keep you posted here.
